In honor of the event that will soon be occuring in Decemebr, we have decided to recount Whitman's Song to Chatta-atl...written after the poet attended the first one in 1873 and thouroughly enjoyed himself.

Image

Song to Chatta-Atl-NAsh-Knox-Nooga-Ville
by Walt Whitman

Hark! I hear the drums calling,
calling me to the river,
From which a thousand fish dance to starlight hymns.
Yes!
Be!
Be today!
The time is near! The time to dance, to frollic, to sing!
The time to grab a fairhaired maiden and hold her tight! To Swing!
The past is dead, the future bright!
Now!
Be!
Hark! The angels that call us forth, on that lonely shore of Chattanooga, offer their hand! Take that glittering palm! Go with them!
So that on that cold northern night in December
Your bouncing feet will serve a burning ember
to warm you and your true love
That lies dead upon the floor. *
Be!
Be today!

*--Critics still don't know how to interperet this line. It's possible that Whitman is using the symbolism of a funeral to rationlize the human instanct to celebrate dispite the futile struggle of life.

Prof. Henry Arnold of University of the South, however, believes that Whitman is simply referring to his partner, who died at the dance following an aerial.

Oh, I wish I were gonna be around for that! Too bad I'm no longer in Knoxville... looks like it will be fun, though!

So who's carpooling up there Saturday, and who's got a hotel room with floor space I can crash on?

Holiday Inn off Exit 1...(cause I get Hotel points...35,000 more and I can get a packet of flower seeds...)

There are several other hotels right up the road off exit 5. I believe Patrick and Natalie scored a hotel room at some "Something Suites" during the July Kaboomaville event...

I'm going to be driving there and back, with lots of coffee, and I have three-four spaces in my car. I'd like at least one other driving partner to ensure I don't run off the road (though, I'm a bit nocturnal, so I doubt I will), but if anyone wants a ride, give me a holler. I just need a couple bucks in gas money in exchange and someone who'll poke me in case of highway hypnosis.

Many thanks to all the fine folks who attended our little soiree on Saturday.

An amazing time, with some outstanding "performances" at the tag team.

We had some great Tag Teams representing from all over the Southeast.

1st Place went to "The All Male Revue" from Atlanta/Knoxville
2nd Place went a local Chattanooga team - Great Job! (The Phlebotomists!)
3rd place went to "The Zoo" - and All Atlanta Team

The "They did What?!" trophy went to Alan Anicella from Atlanta, GA. Alan broke out all the stops - West Coast Body Rolls, a fabulous red sequined "Country-Western" shirt, and a pair of "I AM YOUR CHRISTMAS PRESENT BOXERS..."

We got some great toys for our Angel Tree Kids and we appreciate Jim Wheatley and Naomi Uyama for smacking down some serious tuneage.

Be on the lookout for ChattaAtlNashKnoxNoogaVille V <---five

The Chattanooga team was "the Lobotimists."

That was loads of fun -- and very, um, "eye-opening".

I was proud when one of our locals said that one of the things I did in particular scarred him forever. We did good, obviously. ;)
