HOTLANTA DIXIELAND JAZZ

August 13, 2007

Image

Hotlanta sets your feet firmly on Bourbon Street in Old New Orleans. You'll experience every bit of the joy, energy, and humor of that early American Jazz called Dixieland. Songs from Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael, Louie Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, plus many old favorites like "Sweet Georgia Brown", "Royal Garden Blues", "South", "Hard Hearted Hannah", and "When The Saints Go Marchin' In" are all part of Hotlanta's musical treat.

7:00-8:00pm - Sweet Solo Jazz Moves
Taught by: Gina Helfrich

8:00-8:30pm - FREE Beginner Lesson
Taught by: Andrew & Erica

8:30-11:00pm - Open Dancing

10:00pm - SOLO CHARLESTON TEAM BATTLE
That right! We'll randomly split up teams (playground style). Then, you'll have a few seconds to huddle up, elect a team captain & talk strategy with your mates. Then, it's on! Members from each team will battle it out TO LIVE MUSIC, displaying their most impressive solo charleston skillz. FREE sign-up at the door! As always, judged by audience applause. Rubber chicken key chains awarded to winning team.

$8 Aseda members & Students
$10 General admission

Attire: DRESSY....skirts, dresses, collared shirts, slacks or jackets

OMG. I'm so glad you guys booked this band, they are *awesome*! And I've only heard them as a 3-piece set! Solo team battle sounds pretty sweet....

OK, Gina. Now we need an emergency Kick-Ass Charleston Moves class. Maybe like a 1-day 2 or 2.5 hour class on a Saturday or Sunday? I'd gladly pay $20 or so for such a class so I can properly represent in the Solo Team Battle. Who's with me?

What about an hour and a half? 2 hours is a long time to do bad-ass solo charleston moves. We'll all be worn out!

kay, y'all....

We'd like to show our appreciation for the band by decking out in our finest threads on Aug 13th! So, go ahead and start picking out a cute little dress number, a swirly skirt or some nice slacks. Whatever you do, just make mamma proud.

Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz will absolutely love this gesture of kindness and respect. It'll mean alot to them. Join us in making this a real special night!

P.S. - And don't even think of showing up in a grubby t-shirt. We will egg you!

Or we will make you wear stinky jackets and dresses from the thrift store.

DON't FORGET.....

1) To put on our fancy pants and slick that hair back tonight! We're dressing up all nice and spiffy for tonight's live music loveliness.

2) Solo Charleston Team Battle @ 10:00pm to LIVE MUSIC!
Registration for the Solo Charleston Team Battle is FREE to the first 20 dancers to sign-up at the door. Teams will be randomly divided up and given an appropriate street name. Each team's captain will huddle their team for 5 to explain the rules of engagement. In true B'Boy fashion, each team will attempt to one up the other with their sweet solo charleston skillz.....sending out 1-4 dancers at a time for 2 phrases or (8) eight counts. (High fiving, poses of intimidation, grunting, chest slapping and general "Bring it owwwwn!" attitudes are acceptable). No spitting.

3) CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN
