ASEDA is a non-profit organization established in 2002 to promote swing dancing in the greater Atlanta area. From it's meager beginnings, ASEDA has grown to be one of the largest swing dance clubs in the southeast. We organize several dances each month featuring the best swing DJ's around playing the swinginest tunes from the 1920's, 30's, and 40's as well as plenty of swinging modern music thrown in just to keep us on our toes. We also strive to provide members the experience of dancing to live music and book live bands for our dances about once per quarter.
While not a teaching organization, ASEDA partners with local instructors to provide free lessons at all of our dances. We also host larger weekend-long workshops with world-champion caliber instructors from around the country. Occasionally, we go nuts and bring in teachers from as far away as Sweden.
We have become the organizers of the annual Atlanta Lindy Exchange (ATLX), which aims to share Atlanta's swing scene with the rest of the country. Every year since 2003, local ASEDA members have opened up our homes and dance venues to host hundreds of out-of-town dancers and show them just how we swing in Atlanta.
But we're not just a bunch of dancers, we're a dance community and organize several social outings throughout the year. From white-water rafting to backyard BBQ's and midnight pancakes, our members enjoy connecting with each other off of the dance-floor as much as we do on it.
As if that weren't enough, ASEDA is happy to have recently begun establishing an outreach program to expose even more of the Atlanta community, young and old, to the dances and music of the swing Era.
ASEDA is operated by its president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and a Board of Directors. Every December, ASEDA members elect the officers and board members for the upcoming year.
