Have Housing?
If you live in metro Atlanta, we ask you to open your home to dancers for this event.  Not only is it a great way to show our guests a good time in Atlanta, but you just may meet people that will house you if you go to their town's event.

Housing Etiquette

Guest Recommendations

  • Contact your host as soon as you've been notified by the Housing Coordinator.
  • Ask them about what to bring (towel/pillows/sleeping bag/air mattress/etc.).
  • Your host is responsible for providing sleeping space and bathroom arrangements only.  Meals are your responsibility.
  • Your host may transport you to and from events but that isn't always the case.  Check with your host to see if they'll be able to drive you to and from the airport and/or the Atlanta Varsity Showdown events.  If they can't, please communicate your need on our online form.  It's nice to offer whoever is driving you around some gas money.
  • Be aware of any home rules your host may have, including rules for your safety.
  • Make your "getting ready" time as short as possible.  Nobody likes being late for a paid event.  I f you are sharing a bathroom, try and do as much of your routine outside of the bathroom as possible so that other folks can use the shower, etc.
  • Please show care for your host's home.  During the event, please remember to pick up after yourself.  Before you leave, clean up after yourself in the bathroom and kitchen areas.
  • Try to bring or do something for your host to express your gratitude.  It is not necessary but it is a nice thing to do and a positive hosting experience makes it much easier for us to get volunteers to host again for future events.  Some suggestions:
    • A meal (lunch/dinner)
    • A thank-you card
    • A gift certificate from your favorite national bookstore/music chain
    • A legal CD with some of your favorite songs
  • Always let your host know what your plans are and where to find you (trade mobile numbers if possible).  It keeps them from stressing.  They usually feel somewhat responsible for you, and want to make sure you are safe and having a good time.

Host Recommendations:

  • Contact your guest(s) as soon as you've been notified by the Housing Coordinator.
  • Inform your guest(s) about what to bring (towel/pillows/sleeping bag/air mattress/etc.).
  • All your guest(s) expect is some sleeping space and access to a bathroom.  They'll take care of their own meals.  If possible, it is nice to have some breakfast stuff around.  Check with them before you buy anything special.
  • Let your guest(s) know to what extent you can drive them around during the event.
  • Let your guest(s) know what your home rules are, including what's important for access and safety.
  • Let your guest(s) know your schedule and what a reasonable amount of time prepping in the bathroom will be.  No point in being cranky about being late to events if you've made an incorrect assumption about what a "reasonable time" would be.
  • Check with other hosts and/or the Housing Coordinator and see if there are any group lunches/dinners that your guest(s) might enjoy.
  • Always let your guest(s) know what your plans are and where to find you (trade mobile numbers if possible).  It keeps them from stressing.  They may be alone in Atlanta and might be looking for you as soon as a problem arises.
