Frequently Asked Questions

How often do you have dances?
ASEDA works diligently to have one big time dance four times a year (each quarter). It might be a wild themed dance (50's Sock Hop, Happy Birthday! Dance, Thankful Dance, etc.) or it could just be everyone dancing and having fun.

We are working to bring in DJ's from around the region and even some great new live bands!

Do I have to be a member to come to your dances?
Nope, but we'd love for you to consider joining. You get all kinds of great benefits in joining our group - as well as discounts to several dances!

How many people come to your dances?
Typically we have between 75 to 150+ dancers - it all depends on time of the year, what's going on in town, etc.

Do I need a partner?
Nope. This form of social dancing encourages everyone to dance with everyone else. Once you learn the basic steps, you can pretty much dance with everyone!

Do I have to know how to dance?
Nope - Most, if not all our dances will have a free (yes, free) basic lesson prior to the main dance. You can walk right in, learn how to get moving, and dance the night away.

What age groups come to your dances?
We have anywhere from 16 to 70 years old. We try to make our dances family friendly and open to all ages.

How should I dress?
Comfortably. Gentlemen normally wear slacks/nice jeans with a matching Garanimals shirt (Guys need all the help they can get). Ladies will wear twirly skirts, funky slacks, and fairly comfy tops. Might want to bring a change of shirts, and always know where your towel is…

What kind of shoes should I wear?
Everyone wears comfortable shoes - typically with a smooth leather sole. Tennis shoes are great to start with, but they tend to grip the floor a bit… You don't need anything fancy but of course, once you get bit by the bug, you might look into something a bit more designed for dancing. You can check out: www.dancestore.com for a wide variety.

What, exactly, is a "Lindy Bomb"?
A "Lindy Bomb" is a really amazing social function. There are different flavors of Lindy Bombing. Imagine, if you and your friends were walking in the mall, and heard some nice swing tune playing on the PA. You all start dancing - the crowd is simply amazed - and then, when the song ends, you just go on with your shopping like nothing has happened.

There is also the joy of bringing swing dancing to just about anywhere - Braves Games, Blues Joints, Fast Food Restaurants, or anywhere where dancing "should be."

When snow melts, where does the "white" go"
It goes to the place where dreams are made, smiles are found, and happiness abounds. You know, Des Moines?
