Get out your 1920's beads and flapper dresses, and dance to the Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz Trio, while helping troubled women get back on their feet!
Swing dancers are needed on Saturday, February 24th, 7-10pm, in Stone Mountain. They need 2 couples, or 4-5 dancers.
Breakthru House is a long term treatment facility for women recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. They have been operating since 1969 and are one of the longest standing treatment facilities in Georgia exclusively for women. On February 24th from 7-10pm, they are having their first annual fundraiser, "The Riverboat Masquerade: Celebrating Recovery New Orleans Style." It will be on the Stone Mountain Riverboat. Everyone will be dressed in their best 1920's attire, masks, and beads. The Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz Band will be playing. They would like some charleston, swing, and/or lindy hop dancers to teach guests some moves, and do a short demonstration to get the party hopping.
Our SFTH volunteers will get free admission to the riverboat and dinner. Hotlanta Dixieland Jazz Trio: http://members.aol.com/donerdman/pages/hdj.html
Let me know ASAP if you can help these folks out.

While many of us were enjoying the free dance at AIDC (thanks ASEDA!), a few of our friends were representing our swing dance community well by reaching out to help a good cause in our larger community through Swingin' From the Heart. Our friends danced for a fundraiser for Breakthru House, a transitional program for women recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction.
In the words of our contact at Breakthru House:
"Thanks soooo much for coming out! It was a great event and you guys really got the crowd into it! We are not sure what the final count is but we already know we went way above our initial goal! Thanks again and if we have another event like this I'll definitely invite you guys out!"
Thanks Gina, Peter, Stacy, John, and Christine!
