Atlanta Varsity Showdown - October 27-29, 2006
16+ hours schooling, 3 dances, 2 bands, competitions and more!!!

School is back in session! But, no need to bring your books, all you need to bring is your dance shoes! The Atlanta Swing Era Dance Association (ASEDA) is proud to announce the return of the Atlanta Varsity Showdown (AVS)! (www.aseda.org/avs)

What will you get at AVS? You will get an Ivy League swing education at community swing college prices.

AVS is happening in Atlanta on October 27-29, 2006. Our visting professors this year are World Lindy Hop Champion Skye Humphries and Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown Champion Frida Segerdahl. This will be the first time Skye and Frida have taught in the Deep South.

Our esteemed resident professors include Bobby White, Kate Hedin, Peter Zellner, Stacy McBreen and Patrick and Natalie Manigault.

Your weekend pass will give you access to over 16 hours of top-notch schooling in lindy, balboa, charleston and other specialty classes. We�ll also have an AVS first: a �floating workshop.� The classes will offer instruction for everyone, from the novice dancer to those with many hours spent on the dance floor.

Your weekend pass also includes Friday and Saturday night dancing with live bands. Saturday night will have a late night dance and dedicated blues room.

There will also be Jack & Jill, Jill & Jill and Jack & Jack contests. These will be great fun and an opportunity for you to compete or cheer on your favorite competitor.

Just dance swing

The following is a transcript of a question and answer session with Alan Annicella, Dean of Students, done by the AVS student newspaper, the "Just Dance Swing Weekly":

JDS: When will for the 2006 Atlanta Varsity Showdown open?
Alan: Registration opens tomorrow, Monday, August 7, 2006 at 10:00pm est.

JDS: How much is full-weekend registration going to cost?
Alan: As you will know, we strive to provide an Ivy League swing education at community swing college prices, so registration has been set at $70 for the first 30 registrants, and $80 pre-registration price after that. Pre-registration is available until one week prior to the AVS. Passes will be sold at the door for $90, but only if space is available. There are a limited number of spaces available, so please register early.

JDS: What do you get with the full weekend pass?
Alan: You get admission to 16+ hours of instruction, 3 dances, 2 bands, competitions, and so much more!

JDS: Are there day passes available?
Alan: Yes, there are day passes available for $45. But they do not include admission to the evening dance. The full weekend pass is such a bargain, we encourage everyone to sign up for the full-weekend.

JDS: Are there any competitions?
Alan: Yes, we will be having three competitions. The Jack & Jill, he biggest contest of the event, costs just $10 to enter and the prize is glory, fame and lots of people flirting with you... There of course will be actual prizes. This contest is only open to full-weekend pass holders and pre-registration is suggested because there are a limited number of entries available.

JDS: Any other competitions?
Alan: Yes, there will also be a Jill & Jill and a Jack & Jack. These are free and open to anyone that has a ticket to the Saturday night dance.

JDS: It sounds like you have a great weekend lined up. Where can potential students get more information?
Alan: We are really excited about this years AVS. Hey, about the Jack and Jack and Jill & Jill... do the dancers get to choose their role of lead or follow? Will they have to do both roles? Switch on command? Or will it just be two dudes dancing? (or two chicks)
