Posted: Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:55 pm Post subject: ATLX3 Theme Challenge Continues (sort of)!!! |
|
|
Here it is guys the Theme for ATLX3: Third Times a Charm
Since the theme we finally settled on didnt come from the suggestions that were submitted for the give us a good theme idea, and well give you free weekend passes contest, we still want to hold true to our promise to give someone free passes for helping us out!
Heres your chance:
You already have the theme and a nice visual (think lamps, genies, charms and such) now we need a song to go with it!
The song should be danceable, since it will likely be used for promotional purposes between now and April 2006, and needs to fit well with the theme this will prove to be challenging, we know, but we also believe that the members of ASEDA are up for the challenge!
How to submit an entry:
You can either submit your song pick here on the forum (name of artist, title of song, your real name), or if you have an mp3 (or other such file), you can send it directly to me: [email protected] (dont worry - Ill be keeping track of everything thats submitted, and who submitted it).
The contest begins NOW, and ends when we have a solid winner!
Members of ASEDA its all up to you.
...remember... free weekend passes are on the line... _________________ Andrea

I will not...repeat will not allow "Friend Like Me" in any area of this exchange...
Don't ask why (2 weeks of marching band camp teaching of that very show and over 500 performances of the tune in another community band) - just...don't ask...

Little bit of a stretch musically, but... They Might Be Giants "Istanbul"
(...yes, yes, i know stole the idea from Nathalie and Yuval's routine.)
or for something more mainstream swing "Shiek of Araby" (you know, with or without pants on. )I have a Hot Lips Page version that i bet Bobby would like. I think Artie Shaw did a nice rendition of it too, but i don't seem to have that one. _________________ Thank god for Robert Johnson

I've got a version of Artie Shaw (Helen Forest singing) doing "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" that's pretty nice. And definitely a little more upbeat than the traditional ballade (a la Ella)--it's about 112 bpm. _________________ --Kate

Yeah, the ones that seem obvious to me are either Caravan or Night in Tunisia. They're both kinda funky to dance to unless you find the right version. The ellington version of Caravan I have is cool though, since it breaks into a nice lindy-tempo swing about half of the time. I also just ordered good versions of dinah washington singing caravan and Ella singing Night in Tunisia (Vocals are always better if you want the song to represent the exchange I figure). This contest sure is an easy excuse for me to buy more CDs. _________________ ~Dave

"That Old Black Magic" by Doris Day --very caravanesque version that breaks out into a nice swing in the middle. _________________ "...would you mind removing the leaky bladder quote from your signature? ... I wear Depends." - C.B. |

What about "Three Little Wishes" by Jimmy Lee and the Playboys? That's my two cents.

Wow - I'm loving the turn-out of music suggestions!
I'm working on getting copies of everything so we can take a listen... any more suggestions??

A lot of people promised to send me a version of something they had, but few actually got around to it.
We actually got a great song from Jim Wheatly - Diana Krall's "Charmed Life" - we just didn't get it in time for what we wanted to do with it... that being said, expect to hear it periodically throughout the weekend!
